Updated information on my DNA from Ancestry.com
Ancestry has done further testing of my DNA and the results have changed to the following which is more like what I thought originally.  My roots are mostly from Ireland.
Europe 100%
Ireland 71%
Iberian Peninsula 8%
Scandinavia 8%
Trace Regions 13%

These are regions where you seem to have just a trace amount of genetic ethnicity — there is only a small amount of evidence supporting the regions as part of your genetic ethnicity. Because both the estimated amount and the range of the estimate are small, it is possible that these regions appear by chance and are not actually part of your genetic ethnicity.
  • Finland/Northwest Russia  5%
  • Europe West  4%
  • Great Britain  2%
  • Italy/Greece   1%
  • Europe East    1%

Ireland Primarily located in: Ireland, Wales, Scotland   71%
Also found in: France, England
Ireland is located in the eastern part of the North Atlantic Ocean, directly west of Great Britain. A variety of internal and external influences have shaped Ireland as we know it today. Ireland’s modern cultural remains deeply rooted in the Celtic culture that spread across much of Central Europe and into the British Isles. Along with Wales, Scotland, and a handful of other isolated communities within the British Isles, Ireland remains one of the last holdouts of the ancient Celtic languages that were once spoken throughout much of Western Europe. And though closely tied to Great Britain, both geographically and historically, the Irish have fiercely maintained their unique character through the centuries.

Iberian Peninsula  Primarily located in: Spain, Portugal    8%
Also found in: France, Morocco, Algeria, Italy
Separated from the rest of continental Europe by the Pyrenees Mountains, the Iberian Peninsula lies between the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. Gibraltar, at the peninsula’s southern tip, is just a little over nine miles from the north coast of Africa. This proximity would play a major part in the history and identity of Spain and Portugal.

Scandinavia Primarily located in: Sweden, Norway, Denmark    8%
Also found in: Great Britain, France, Germany, Netherlands, Belgium, the Baltic States, Finland
Scandinavia is perched atop northern Europe, its natives referred to throughout history as “North Men.” Separated from the main European continent by the Baltic Sea, the Scandinavians have historically been renowned seafarers. Their adventures brought them into contact with much of the rest of Europe, sometimes as feared raiders and other times as well-traveled merchants and tradesmen.

Genealogy is my interest and family is my heart.

O'Neill being my maiden name and a fine stock of fellows I came from.  Hearty and pioneering and adventurous they left Ireland and traveled over the ocean some going to Australia, others Canada, and others straight to America.  Eventually all of my roots ended up settling in the Bay Area, some in San Francisco, others in Oakland, San Mateo, Berkeley and San Leandro, California where my immediate family set their roots.

My maternal grandfather, John Maloney  started as a boy going out to sea after the 4th grade.  After landing in America he worked on the docks in San Francisco with his brothers, Ned and Matthew Moloney  for McCormick Steam-lines.    His wife, Annie Murray, came over as a child with him and his mother to connect with her siblings who were already in America.  She started working as a domestic before marrying and becoming the mother of ten children.  John's mother was Mary Margaret Hannigan, a store keeper, and his father was John Moloney, a farmer.  John Sr. had a difficult life after moving to town and marrying later in life.  He took to drinking.  He ended up dying in a Poor House.  His wife, on the other hand, had worked hard running a store and decided to be adventurous and follow her sons, Ned (Edward) and Matt to America, she brought her young son, John Jr., with her.

My paternal grandfather, Joseph Nicholas O'Neill  was a well digger by trade and tried other adventures like mining in the 1900s with his brothers.  There is a family legend that my paternal great grandfather, Patrick O'Neill, ventured to Australia with his two brothers and when they left Australia, the brothers returned to Ireland but my great grandfather, Patrick came to America and settled in Berkeley where he met and married, Julia Curran.  My grandfather, Nick, said that his dad was a big man with a red beard.   Julia was born in Canada, but her mother's family the Stapletons came from County Meathe in Ireland.  Her story is told that she fell asleep in her Aunt's  wagon that was headed for the United States and she came as a stowaway to America.  Her brothers, James and Patrick had already ventured to America and settled in Berkeley, where Julia eventually ended up, too.  Her parents and some of her siblings stayed in Canada.  Joseph Nicholas met and married a beautiful Swedish girl, Sarah Hanson, who was working as a maid for wealthy people in Berkeley.  Their story is that Nick got caught in a well he was drilling and called for help.  Sarah heard his screams and went to the rescue, pulling him out.  He remembered seeing a beautiful girl with long blonde braids coming to his rescue.  Sarah's folks came from Sweden and first settled in New Jersey and farmed, then they moved to Berkeley area where Sarah met Nick.  Her father was John Fredrick Hanson and her mother was Christina AKA Kerstin Anderson.  From her birth records: Name: Kerstin Andersson  Birth Date: 12 okt 1852 (12 Oct 1852) Birth Place: Mellan-Grevie, Malmöhus (Skåne), Sverige (Sweden).
